The Band recently led the St Just Feast Parade and played in St Just Square on feast Monday morning. The following Sunday the band led the Remembrance parade through Pendeen before leading the congregation for the hymns during the Remembrance service. The Last Post and Reveille was once again played superbly by Alan Penrose.

We are now into a busy time of year for the band and we are looking forward to entertaining you over the Christmas Period!!!

The members of the Junior Band have now made a number of public performances and continue to go from strength to strength. Some of the younger members of the Senior Band have been promoted to different instruments in anticipation of these Junior members progressing to the 'big band'. Kayleigh Smith has been promoted to solo cornet, Charlotte Kevern has moved to first horn and Shona May has moved up to second cornet. All three have risen to the challenge and are proving to be a real asset to the Band.

We are still on the look out for a percussionist and bass players in particular but players of all ages and ability will be made very welcome!

We will be holding a Band Sale and Table Top Sale in Pendeen WI Hall on January 16th. To book a table please contact Ann Seaton o Penzance 711570.

The Band would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year and to thank you for your continued support.

Band Week 2009 was another great success. Although we were unable to play outside the village hall on Band Sunday due to 'slightly damp' weather we were delighted that so many people braved the rain to listen to us play indoors instead. The Band played around the village on Monday night and then held a sale in the village hall on Band Week Tuesday.

On Wednesday we held our Treasure Hunt and Barbeque at The Radjel Inn. Thank you to everyone at The Radjel for making the evening such a great success. The Hunt was won by Simon, Tracy, Kayleigh, Sam, Daniel, Oscar and Felix Smith (don't think Uncle Tom Cobbly could make it!). With Darren and Alan setting the clues this year Tara and Christine were able to sample the pain that they have put us through in recent years!

On Thursday we played in St Just Square.

The highlight of the week was our Friday night concert with Paul Church Choir. We have now performed with the Choir at a number of concerts and were delighted that they could join us again. As always, they sounded superb! During the concert the Band Person of the Year trophy was presented (see photo below). All members of the Band invited to vote and this years winner was Darren Jenkin (who says bribery doesn't work)! This concert was made even more special with a performance by the learner / junior section of the Band. Everyone was so impressed by their performance and we look forward to them progressing into the senior band. Well done to all of you! Jonathan (with help from Charlotte) has spent a lot of time teaching these children (he used to have hair!), and it was really good to see such enthusiasm and to hear some really good playing from them.

The following Sunday we held our Duck Race at Tregeseal River. Thanks must go to John and Treve Nicholls for their help with this event. Band Week was rounded off in what has become a traditional manner with an open air service with Pendeen Church in the car park. The Band would like to thank everyone who helped during the week and members of the community for great support shown to the Band throughout Band Week.

The Junior Band has since performed at Botallack Country Fair and is due to perform on Friday 9th October at Cape Cornwall School in aid of The Miners Statue. They will also play at Morvah Church for Morvah feast.

We have a number of vacancies in the senior band and are particularly keen to find a percussionist, cornet players and a bass player. If you know of anybody that may be interested in joining please call Darren (01736 788421) or Jonathan (01736 786460).

Thank you once again for your continued support.

Darren Jenkin, Bandmaster

Mr O'Sullivan very kindly donated money towards the purchase of a new trombone and a plaque has been made for the case saying "Presented to Pendeen Silver Band on 31st July 2009 by his son Dennis in memory of Patrick "Paddy" O'Sullivan".
